QuNeW 2027

Soliciting applications for hosting!

About QuNeW

Through the biennial Quantum Networks Workshop (QuNeW), our wish is to strengthen the quantum networking community and accelerate the development of quantum networking technology. We will do so by bringing together people from all sub-fields of the community for an open exchange of knowledge and discussion of challenges and future opportunities of quantum networks in a broad sense.

The first edition was organised in 2023 near Boston, USA, and the second was organised in 2025 in The Hague, The Netherlands. Building on these successes, preparations for QuNeW 2027 are now well underway!

QuNeW 2027 will be a full 3-day workshop, bringing together 150 academic and industry experts spanning all sub-fields of quantum networks to discuss the latest advances in the field. The program will combine inspiring invited and contributed talks with multiple poster sessions for in-depth discussions of latest breakthroughs and ongoing efforts.

We are now soliciting applications for hosting, which will close on January 31st 2026. Please see further details below.

QuNeW Scope

QuNeW is a full 3-day workshop combining a mixture of invited (30 min) and contributed (20 min) talks that aim to span all sub-fields of quantum networking.

It is targeted at experimentalists and theoreticians, and academia and industry alike.

The workshop will include contributed poster sessions that provide an opportunity to share and discuss both latest results and ongoing efforts.

Example Scientific Tracks:

1. Applications of quantum networking

2. Quantum computing networks

3. Quantum repeater experiments and theory

4. Integrated photonics

5. Space-based quantum networking technologies

6. Emerging platforms

7. Quantum network software and simulation

8. Ethical Considerations and societal impact

Call for Hosts

Following the well received QuNeW 2025 hosted by QuTech in The Hague, which featured a strong scientific program and active discussions involving both senior and junior researchers, the Steering Committee invites institutions to express their interest in hosting QuNeW 2027.

Hosting QuNeW offers an excellent opportunity to highlight local quantum networking activities, build new collaborations and partnerships, and help shape the future direction of the workshop series. As in previous years, we expect that two members of the local organizing team will join the Steering Committee moving forward.

The local organizing committee is responsible for the practical execution of the workshop. This includes registration of participants, management of the workshop budget including the collection of participation fees, coordination of the venue, and the general accommodation of the workshop and its participants.

Since QuNeW 2025 was held in Europe, we will preferably not select a European location for QuNeW 2027. However, potential European hosts are warmly encouraged to express early interest for QuNeW 2029.

To be considered as a host for QuNeW 2027, we invite you to prepare a two-page document that addresses the points listed below; if necessary hosts can outline possibilities for various elements and expect to work with the Steering Committee to finalize details. Please submit the document by email to qunewsteering@gmail.com before the end of the day on January 31st to be considered.

1) Local Organizing Team

Please list:

  • The main organizers

  • Their roles and relevant experience

  • A primary point of contact for communication with the Steering Committee

2) Proposed Venue

Please describe the venue you have in mind. Include:

  • Means of transportation for participants to reach and depart from the venue

  • Types of accommodation envisioned and meal options

  • Confirmation that the venue can support a single-session 3 day workshop with 120–150 participants, including space for poster sessions

  • Availability of essential AV and technical support (projector, microphones, poster boards, and space for informal discussions)

3) Tentative Dates

Please propose 2–3 possible date ranges between May and September 2027.

We ask hosts to check that these dates do not clash with major international quantum or physics meetings.

4) Additional Support

If applicable, please briefly describe:

  • Ability to provide invitation letters for visa applications

  • Any planned social events (welcome reception, conference dinner, etc.)

  • Accessibility considerations for the venue

5) Tentative Budget

Please provide an outline of the expected budget. Include:

  • Plans for sponsorship and/or support from the host institution

  • The expected registration fee (maximum €400; lower fees are viewed very positively by the Steering Committee to support student participation)

  • Administrative support available to assist with logistics, fee collection, insurance, and related tasks

We look forward to receiving expressions of interest and to selecting a strong and enthusiastic host to work together with to realize QuNeW 2027!

Sincerely,

The QuNeW 2027 Steering committee
